Stat Effects

Effect Description
Stat Modifier Modifies a character statistic. Used by: Arm Wrack (tilt), Iron Stamina (merit), Gauru form (werewolf), Giant (merit), most equipment.
Stat Contribution Contributes one stat to another. For example, an ability might add half of Resolve to Defense.
Defense Sacrifice Sacrifices defense value. For example, an ability might allow trading defense for increased damage.
Rating Substitution Substitutes one rating for another. For example, an ability might use Wyrd instead of Strength for damage.
Derived Stat Substitution Swaps a component in a derived stat formula with another stat. For example, Defensive Combat replaces Athletics with Brawl or Weaponry in the Defense formula.

Effect Description
Armor Grant Grants armor protection. Used by: Primal Glory (contract), Grounded (merit), Hedge Duelist (merit), Red Revenge (contract), Corporeal Form (angel song).
Armor Coverage Defines armor coverage areas. Used by: Reinforced Clothing, Kevlar Vest, Flak Jacket, Full Riot Gear, Leather (hard).
Conditional Armor Provides armor under specific conditions. For example, armor that only activates when in darkness.
Ammo Property Modifies ammunition properties. Used by: Box of Handgun Rounds, Gold Handgun Rounds, Silver Rifle Rounds, Cold Iron Handgun Rounds.
Element Immunity Provides immunity to specific elements. Used by: Heart of Ice (contract), Fire Elemental (dread power), Heart of Iron (huntsman), Kevlar Vest (ballistic immunity).
Element Property Adds elemental properties to damage. Used by: Celestial Entropy (angel), Siren Song (kith), Gold Handgun Rounds, Blowtorch (fire), Silver Rifle Rounds.
Element Vulnerability Makes character vulnerable to specific elements (damage is upgraded). Used by: A Wolf's Meat (wolf-blooded tell - silver vulnerability).
Damage Modifier Modifies damage type or amount. Used by: Iron Skin (fighting merit - converts lethal to bashing from unarmed attacks).
Structure Damage Deals structural damage to equipment, cover objects, or nearby objects. For example, an ability might damage all equipped items, destroy cover, or damage objects in the room.
Turn-Based Damage Deals damage at the start or end of each turn. For example, ongoing fire damage or poison effects.
Turn-Based Structure Damage Deals structural damage to equipment each turn. Parameters: damage_amount (int), damage_type (str, default 'structural'), target_filter ('equipped'|'specific'), target_specification (slot name for 'specific'). Used by: Rust Root (goblin oddment — 1 structural per round to equipped items).

Effect Description
Dice Pool Modifier Modifies dice pool size. Used by: Paralyzing Presence (contract), Asthmatic Reaction (aspect), Musk (favor), Truth Sense (aspect), Drugged (tilt).
Roll Quality Modifies roll quality (9-again, rote, etc.). Used by: All kith skills (9-again on specific skills), Battle Axe (9-again), Chainsaw (9-again), Great Sword (9-again).
Conditional Dice Pool Modifier Modifies dice pool under specific conditions. Used by: Market Sense (merit), Keen Sense (sight/hearing/smell merits), Heavy Winds (tilt), Blizzard (tilt).
Formula Override Overrides skill formula attributes. Used by: Fighting Finesse (merit - use Dexterity instead of Strength for Weaponry/Brawl).
Escalating Dice Pool Modifier Modifies dice pool that escalates over time. Used by: Sick (condition - penalty worsens each turn).
Formula Bonus Adds bonus to skill formula. For example, an ability might add 2 dice to Strength + Brawl rolls.
Success Multiplier Multiplies success count. Used by: Coeur Loyal (changeling), Sap the Vital Spark (contract), Laying on Hands (merit).

Penalty Type Override Overrides specific penalty types. For example, an ability might ignore wound penalties.
Restriction Type Override Overrides specific restriction types. For example, an ability might allow using restricted skills.

Effect Description
Initiative Modifier Modifies initiative value. For example, an ability might add 2 to initiative rolls.
Initiative Boost Boosts initiative value. For example, an ability might grant +3 initiative for the scene.
Initiative Penalty Reduces initiative value. For example, a Tilt might reduce initiative by 2.
Initiative Override Overrides initiative calculation. For example, an ability might set initiative to a fixed value.

Anchor Grant Grants virtual anchors. Used by: Dawn (changeling merit), Dusk (changeling merit), Vice-Ridden (merit), Virtuous (merit).
Command Restriction Restricts command usage. For example, an ability might prevent using certain commands while active.
Narrative Effect Provides narrative/story effects. For example, an ability might change how the character appears to others.

Equipment Condition Apply Applies conditions to equipment. For example, an ability might damage or break equipment.
Requirement Bypass Bypasses requirements. For example, an ability might allow using abilities without meeting prerequisites.
Reality Layer Transition Transitions between reality layers. For example, an ability might allow entering the Hedge.

Dual Description State Phases character into a dual description state (ephemera, fae). For example, Helldiver's Dive ability puts the character in ephemera state. Character gains a visible prefix like (Ephemera).
Dramatic Failure Trigger Triggers an effect when a dramatic failure occurs. For example, an ability might activate a special power on a dramatic failure.
Pool Restore Restores a resource pool (willpower, glamour, essence, etc.). Used by: Icon (merit), Exciting (goblin fruit).
Pool Drain Drains a resource pool from target (willpower, glamour, essence, etc.). Parameters: target_resource (str), drain_value (int) or drain_per_success (bool) + amount_per_success (int), target_type ('other'), grant_to_self (bool), target_requirements (dict with template_type list). Used by: Hungry Heart (huntsman dread power), Bottle Glamour (hobgoblin dread power).
Double Movement Grants double movement speed for a turn. Character can move at twice their normal speed.
Communication Access Grants communication access to a location. For example, a phantom phone booth allows communication from the Hedge.
Environment Access Grants access to restricted environment types. Parameters: environments (list of environment types like 'water_surface', 'water_shallow', 'water_abyssal', 'sky', 'underground'). For example, a Swimming aspect grants ['water_surface'] access.
Set Attribute Sets a character attribute when effect is applied. Parameters: attribute_name (string), attribute_value (any type). Used by tilts to set state attributes like is_prone.
